Kentucky Census, Reconstructed, 1790 |
DESCRIPTION: In 1790, the area which was to become the state of Kentucky in 1792, lay within the state of Virginia. As a result, the 1790 Federal Census for Virginia contains records for residents of the soon to be created state of Kentucky. This collection is a reconstruction of what the census would have contained had Kentucky been a state. It was compiled from personal tax records now housed in the Kentucky State Historical Society. Each entry lists the name of the tax-payer, assumed to be the head of household who would have appeared in the 1790 Census, and the date of the tax record from which the information came. |
